Gov. Newsom endorses Rep. Doris Matsui ahead of June primary

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Governor Gavin Newsom has endorsed Doris Matsui in her campaign for re-election to Congress, according to a statement released by Matsui’s campaign on Wednesday.

In the statement, Newsom highlighted Matsui’s work on infrastructure projects, including flood protection and local transportation improvements. He also praised her advocacy on national political issues.
The endorsement comes ahead of California’s June 2 top-two primary election.

Matsui’s campaign also released a memo outlining what it described as her strengths going into the primary, including support from the California Democratic Party, local officials, and various organizations.

According to the campaign, Matsui raised more than $560,000 in the first quarter of 2026, leaving her with over $1 million in cash on hand.

The campaign memo highlights Matsui’s record on infrastructure projects and her recent criticism of conditions at a federal immigration facility in Sacramento as examples of her work in office.
